Aug 08, 2018 2) Select the 4-1-3-2 Formation. There are lots of team formations to select from in Championship Manager 01/02. The formation, or playing system, will make a big difference to your team’s title chances. The 4-1-3-2 is among the best formations in Championship Manager that you can win loads of trophies with. That is a formation with a flat. Ah the joys of Championship Manager 93. The game is virtually an exact copy of the. 8.70 in his best season for me. As for tactics, I've tried several with good results. The best is a 4.
The tactics you choose for your team can also have a bearing on the success of your team, it is another vital aspect and so is important to get right. In this section I will give you some tips for setting up your formation, tactics and set pieces.
The first thing to do is to set up your formation, I have always found that the best and most effective way to do this is by using 'create tactic' in the tactics screen, this is a wizard that helps you put your formation and tactics together.
Match Preparation - When playing at home or using your home game tactic I recommend setting your Additional Focus Area to Attacking Movement. When playing away or using your away game tactic I recommend setting your Additional Focus Area to Defensive Positioning.
I always set this & my Starting Tactic straight after each match has finished (checking my next fixture whether it is home or away and the strength of opposition) ready for the next match so the team has the days in between to train on the additional focus area.
Choosing a Formation - There are two main formations that I use that I have found to be the most successful, helping me to win back to back promotions. I use one for home games and one for away games:
Setting up your Team
An important part of the game is concerned with how you set up your team and a quick trawl through the internet will offer many opinions and I have even seen one suggested tactic that did not even have a goalkeeper. However, your tactics need to be determined with two main factors in mind and then other factors are built upon this. The two factors are:
[1] A strong defence.
[2] Utilisation of your best players.

Everything else is secondary. So if you have FIVE decent defenders always play them, using some form of 5-3-2 (adjust for defensive/normal/attacking based on the midfield players you have). If however you only have FOUR decent defenders you are better off just playing them and playing another player elsewhere in the park; play either 4-3-3 or 4-4-2.
Choose players with a high set piece score to take direct free kicks and penalties.

If you have few good defensive players, play 5-3-2 with midfielders in the wingback positions and your best defender as a sweeper in the centre to mop up any strikers who get past your weaker defenders.

Other team’s tactics. Usually it is simply better to play your own tactics, rather than adjust to counter the opponent’s tactics. However, this does occassionally work, if they are playing with a packed midfield and only one up front it makes sense for you also to pack your midfield at the expense of a defender (see more on the next page about in game tactics).
As in the real game be prepared to adjust to match the situation, if your starting 11 have not delivered what you want in the first 60 minutes there is a higher statistical probability that they won’t in 90 minutes either. That’s when to change things.
Finally, if you are playing a cup match and it looks like it is going to go to penalties use your substitutions to get your best penalty takers (high rating for Shooting and Set Pieces) on the pitch. Do this in the last minutes (usually 119 minutes).
